Sew your appreciation by stitching this sweet applique caravan and lace heart - add pot pourri or fragranced oil to the filling.
Step 1
Download and print the template above.
Step 2

Join a 6 x 15cm strip of floral fabric to a piece of 10 x 15cm natural coloured cotton or linen. Press and then stitch a length of cotton lace directly over the seam. Trace the heart template onto your acetate and then mark out onto the prepared fabric using a wipe-off fabric pen.
Step 3

Place a piece of Bondaweb over your computer screen and trace the necessary elements from the caravan digi stamp. You can make it as complicated or simple as you like! Then iron onto the reverse side of your coloured scraps of fabric.
Step 4
Iron the pieces into place onto heart front. Machine around the applique pieces in black thread. Go around each piece at least twice to give the embroidery a ‘sketch-like’ feel. Don’t worry if your sewing is a bit wobbly as this adds to the overall effect of raw edge applique!
Step 5

It’s now time to stitch up the heart and I ‘cheat’ a little here as I like mine to look as neat as possible and curves can be tricky to stitch! Simply turn your front piece over and then trace around the heart template onto the wrong side of the fabric ensuring that your caravan applique is nicely centered.
Step 6

Place a square of your natural linen or cotton behind the front piece to form the back of your heart. Now machine directly on top of your pen line, remembering to leave a turning gap.
Step 7
Trim and clip seam allowances and turn right side out.
Step 8
Press and stuff and if you have any lavender in the garden pop that in too! Hand stitch opening closed. Finally knot a length of jute string and stitch into place at the top of your heart to create a hanging loop.
