Step 1

Crop the little penguin from the Snowgirl Digi. Then enlarge to fit the front of your chosen sweater and print out.
Step 2

Trace the penguin onto Bondaweb creating separate pieces for the main body section, white body section, feet, eyes and beak. I simplified the face slightly with a little triangle for his beak and two ovals for the eyes. Fuse onto your fabric pieces and then into position on your sweater front.
Step 3

Machine around the applique pieces in black thread, making sure you don’t catch in the back of the sweater! Go around each piece at least twice to give the embroidery a ‘sketch-like’ feel. Don’t worry if your sewing is a bit wobbly as this adds to the overall effect of raw edge applique!
Step 4
I then decided I wanted my penguin to be a girl, so I simply used a red pencil to give ‘her’ some rosy cheeks!
Step 5

Neaten any loose threads on the appliqué back and give it a quick press, then wear your handmade Christmas sweater with pride!
